  • About The Festival

The Pocotaligo/Point South Festival Committee came together in 2014 to organize a festival promoting the rich history of the Pocotaligo/Point South Communities of South Carolina. These communities have no events to bring recognition or notiriety to the area. It is the hopes of this committee that this inaugural festival will cast a bright light on these communities and garner in an annual tradition of celebration of Pocotaligo and Point South.

    History of the Area

Pocotaligo is an unincorporated community located in northeastern Jasper County, South Carolina, close to the border of Beaufort County. The community takes its name from the Pocotaligo River, a small tidal creek that separates Jasper and Beaufort counties. Although historically significant, Pocotaligo today primarily serves as a junction point between U.S. Highway 17, U.S. Highway 17 Alternate and U.S. Highway 21. These roads lead to Interstate 95 at Point South and Yemassee, S.C.

Point South is an unincorporated community located in Jasper County, South Carolina near the borders of Beaufort and Hampton counties and close to the geographic center of the Lowcountry. It was developed partially by the Sea Pines Company in the 1960s and 1970s to help attract visitors to the Hilton Head region.

Point South is a major exit point along Interstate 95 in the state, as many motorists traveling to the Beaufort and Charleston areas exit the interstate onto U.S. Highway 17 at this location. As a result, there are several lodging, dining, and fuel locations at the exit. The Lowcountry Council of Governments has its offices in Point South, and the Lowcountry Tourism Board's primary visitor center is located in the area.
